Vision Insurance FAQs
What vision insurance plans does Reno Eye Care Professionals accept?
Vision insurance typically covers routine optometry services, such as refraction exams and prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Because Eye Care Professionals focuses on medical and surgical eye care and does not have an optical department or prescribe eyeglasses, we do not participate with vision insurance plans. All examinations and services provided at our office are billed through your medical insurance, when applicable. Our team is happy to help you understand your coverage and answer any questions about insurance before your appointment.
How can I verify if my medical insurance is accepted?
The easiest way to verify your coverage is to call our office with your insurance information ready. You can also contact your insurance provider directly or check their online member portal for a list of in-network providers. We also ask that you bring your physical insurance card to your appointment to ensure your records are up to date.
Does Reno Eye Care Professionals accept medical insurance for eye conditions?
Yes, there is a difference between vision insurance for routine check-ups and medical insurance for specific eye health issues. As an ophthalmology specialist office, we only accept medical insurance because our focus is on medical conditions such as: cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, and eye infections.
Does Eye Care Professionals provide prescriptions or fulfillment of glasses or contacts?
No, our optometrists and ophthalmologists specialize in early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems to help prevent vision loss, we do not prescribe glasses or contacts.
What should I bring to my eye exam if I have insurance?
To ensure a smooth check-in process at Reno Eye Care, please bring your current medical insurance card and a valid photo ID. If you currently wear glasses or contact lenses, bringing them, along with your current prescription, helps our doctors provide the most accurate assessment of your vision.
What if my insurance is out-of-network?
If Reno Eye Care Professionals is not currently in-network with your provider, you may still be able to use your benefits. Many plans offer out-of-network reimbursement options where you pay for the service upfront and submit the receipt to your insurance company for a partial refund. We can provide you with the necessary itemized documentation to help you file these claims.
